Most of us have been happily using Windows 7, 8, 8.1, Vista or even XP as our daily drivers till date. It is high time we upgrade or update to Windows 10 now. Support for the aforementioned Operating Systems (OS) except Windows 8 and 8.1 have come to an end. This simply means your machine is more vulnerable to cyber attacks without the Security Patches (SP).
Windows 7 is the newest to join the list of Operating Systems that aren’t supported by Microsoft as of 14 January 2020. These Operating Systems still work but can be easily exploited without the Security software that can pick up malicious software. No, Antivirus tools cannot fix issues the Operating System’s security vulnerabilities. Only concerned OS developers like Apple, Microsoft, Linux and others can do that. Upgrading to Windows 10 does just that for you.
Why Update / Upgrade?
With almost everyone shopping online, the need to secure your personal data, bank credentials, private photos and more stored online makes the need for a supported OS inevitable. This is why it is absolutely expected of you to upgrade or update to a supported OS.Security updates protect your online activity and the personal data stored on your system. As of September 2019, Windows 10 held 60.65 percent of the Windows OS market followed by. Windows 7 was at 29.39 percent. But to put it simply, you need to upgrade to Windows 10. Windows 8 and 8.1 are other options to upgrade to but are not recommended as their support too ends by 2023. Extended Support for Windows 7 keeps you safe for about $350 till 2023. The easiest and cheapest option is to upgrade to Windows 10 for free now. How to Update to Windows 10 for free?
Don’t format your PC yet, Windows 7 hasn’t left you stranded. Microsoft offers a free upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7, 8, 8.1 users with a valid licence. If you were running Windows 7 Home you could upgrade to Home or Ultimate/ Pro to Pro variants of Windows 10.
Before jumping on the upgrade be sure to check if your computer’s hardware meets the minimum requirements of Windows 10. Windows 10 requires very basic system resources so that even older computers from the Vista era or even a few XP machines can run Windows 10.

If your machine meets the minimum requirements and is running on a licensed copy of Windows 7, 8, 8.1 go to the Microsoft website => Downloads => Windows 10 page and click on Update Now. The Update Assistant will help you install Windows 10.
Create Installation Media
As you are upgrading from an existing Windows license you will not need a new Windows 10 license. Your Existing Windows license will automatically get upgraded to a Windows 10 license. The Hard Drive Problem
If you have more than one hard drive connected to your machine, don’t forget to disconnect it before beginning the installation or you will encounter “0x80070002 – 0x20009″ error
